The future eastern portal of the Semmering Base (SBT) is on the outskirts of Gloggnitz. The SBT 1.1 Gloggnitz tunnel section is approximately 7.4 km long and runs on two sides – from Gloggnitz and from the Göstritz intermediate point – according to the new Austrian tunneling method (NÖT). There are two parallel single-track tunnel pipes with 16 transverse passages at maximum intervals. 500 m. An intermediate excavation at Göstritz is required in addition to the two drive portals at Gloggnitz due to geological disturbances in the area. An approximately 1,000-meter-long access tunnel is being dug into the mountain, which will supply construction logistics. At the end of the tunnel, two shafts approximately 260 m deep will be built with caverns necessary for construction interventions. Completion of the tunnel is scheduled for 2025.
