Tunnelkette Granitztal, BL 50.4, Kärnten

  • Tunnelkette Granitztal, BL 50.4, Kärnten
  • HOCHTIEF will build the Granitztal tunnel chain together with a consortium partner by 2020.
  • The approximately 6 km long chain of tunnels runs as part of the Coralmbahn between the Lavant Valley and the Jauntal Valley.
  • It’s made of:
    • Deutsch-Grutschen tunnel (2.6 km)
    • Granitztal fenced area (0.6 km)
    • and the Langer Berg tunnel (1.8 miles)

Similar to the Koralm tunnel, it is designed as a two-pipe tunnel system. In the Granitztal area, the railway line is being built using the cut-and-cover method. In the last phase, the tunnels will be covered. The terrain will be modeled by the country example. In the future, a ventilation center with an emergency exit and a rescue area will be installed here. Granitzbach crosses a closed tunnel bridge. The northern portal of the tunnel chain is found in the Lavant Valley in the area of an abandoned quarry. The south portal is located between the village of Eis and St. Radegund in Jauntal.
